How it can help

Sclerotherapy treats spider veins and some varicose veins. A solution is injected into the unwanted vein, causing it to close so that blood reroutes through healthy veins.

Over the following weeks the treated vein fades as the body absorbs it. Some veins need more than one session, and new veins can appear over time.

Who it may suit

  • Spider veins on the legs
  • Some smaller varicose veins
  • Veins that cause aching or self-consciousness

What to expect

  1. Vein assessment. Your doctor examines your veins and checks that sclerotherapy is right for you.
  2. Treatment. A very fine needle is used to inject the solution into the targeted veins.
  3. Compression. You may be asked to wear compression stockings for a period afterwards.
  4. Follow-up. We review how the veins are fading and plan further sessions if needed.
